RESTLESS PROMO FILM SS 2010
Fashion designer Christian Blanken approached award winning writer In-Sook Chappell and Director Sav Akyüz to create a beautiful and moving short film to feature alongside the launch of his new Spring Summer 2010 collection. Starring Karen Ferrari and Elizabeth Tan.
The film is about Manon, a woman defined by her beauty and elegance, she is a construct, the image of the "perfect" woman, but inside is a different story. We first see her creating herself in front of a mirror. She is haunted by memories of Anna, a young girl she spent time with, 3 years ago in Hong Kong. Manon was pygmalion to Anna, taught her how to drink coffee, smoke cigarettes, taught her her twisted tastes and addictions. Manon was bored and Anna was her plaything, she abandoned Anna when she left Hong Kong. Anna has tracked Manon down and the two meet. RESTLESS is about obsession and mindgames, about always wanting to be somewhere else, someone else. It's about moving fast when you're out of time.
For Spring/Summer 2009 Christian continues to draw upon his aesthetic for clean and timeless pieces. The collection projects sensibility through modern classic shapes and soft colours, embodying effortless dressing.
For women androgynous references continue to be explored with Christian’s signature tailoring neatly adopted for refined boxy shaped trench coats and cropped jackets. Teamed with jersey dresses and casual shorts he plays to American sportswear chic, exaggerated further by a metallic jacket and gabardine raincoats.
The look for men reverberates the relaxed essence and sees an intrinsic clean cut image created by the sophisticated simplicity of style. Coats and jackets in greys and beiges paired with rolled up trousers form a straightforward silhouette and subtly incorporates the use of luxurious fabrics in leather and paper cloth.
With an uncomplicated colour palette complementing the relaxed yet structured element to both men and women, focus is on cool neutrals but with the added juxtaposition of burnt orange for men and electric pink and turquoise blue for women.
